Support for Project Web App (Access)
What do you do when you have a powerful project management
tool, but can’t seem to get users to understand it, or to
use it consistently? Training, right? Wait… not so fast. Why not give real-time performance support at the user’s
fingertips right when they need it - saving training and
travel time and money while providing usable information and
Project Web App (Access) Performance Support Tool
Project Server Support, Inc. (PSSI) is breaking new ground
with a hybrid of training and “performance support” for
Project Web Access (PWA) users called PWA RealTime:
Performance Support for Project Web Access.
Project Web Access is a powerful tool for project teams who
use Microsoft Project Server. It allows teams and project
managers to review and update task assignments, view project
information, generate reports and integrate with Microsoft
Outlook. The biggest hurdles for some project teams to take
advantage of PWA have simply been learning and compliance.
Geographically diverse team members can’t get together for
training on PWA, and even when they know the application,
they don’t always log on and update their information on
time or consistently.
PWA RealTime - Two Useful Tools
PWA RealTime is a cutting edge way to overcome both of these
hurdles. It provides real-time training for users and
ensures ongoing performance/compliance. The product consists
of two distinct tools.
First, the product provides a just-in-time ramp-up and
verification site for users to learn PWA. Learners can log
on to a special web page and download simple, easy to use
learner documentation on how to use Project Web Access. On
the same page, they can view animated demonstrations that
walk learners through the keystrokes and steps they need to
follow to use the tool. The demos are simple and printable
to provide learners ongoing support.
Once the learning is complete, users go through a
self-verification on the tool, and can even provide feedback
on what other support they might need to use the tool.
Responses are captured in a database and project or system
owners can loop back to users to follow up and provide
additional help if needed.
Next, PWA RealTime provides a way for PMO administrators to
track whether project team members are entering data and
updating information on time. When team members are off
schedule, they can be sent real time reminders to users.
Customizable, Practical Alternative
For companies who want to harness the power of Project
Server and Project Web Access, this next generation of
training and performance support tools can provide a jump
start and the ongoing support needed to get all users
aligned and information flowing. The product can be
customized to any organization using Project Server.
